Tourism Grant Deadlines DMOs Should Watch in August and September 2026

Budget season is when tourism grant deadlines stack up, and this year the late-summer cluster is unusually rich for destination organizations. Here are the programs with windows closing in August and September 2026, drawn from the 114 programs we track in the Kiosk Grant Finder.

Dates below were verified in late July 2026. Grant windows move, so always confirm on the official program page before you plan an application around one.

Closing in August

  • Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (National Park Service), August 3. Awards from $300,000 up to $15 million for public park and outdoor recreation development in communities of 25,000 or more, with a 50 percent match. Wayfinding and visitor amenities can ride inside a larger project.

  • Tribal Tourism Grant Program (Bureau of Indian Affairs), August 7. Roughly ten awards of $200,000 to $300,000 for federally recognized Tribes growing visitation to existing tourism destinations. Visitor experience and visibility infrastructure are core eligible uses.

  • Kansas Tourism Marketing Grant, August 31. Funds new, first-time tourism marketing initiatives, and the innovation language leaves room for first-time digital visitor information projects.

  • Mississippi Main Street Revitalization Program, expected late August. Last cycle closed August 29 with grants up to $500,000 per community for downtown revitalization. Watch the Mississippi Main Street Association for this year’s window.

Closing in September

  • Iowa Tourism Marketing Grant, September. Opens in August and closes in September each year: $2,500 to $10,000 with a 20 percent match for marketing campaigns promoting Iowa places and events.

  • Ohio History Fund, early September. Matching grants for local history and preservation projects, including interpretation at historic sites.

  • Oklahoma Route 66 Revitalization Grants, expected September 30. Round 4 ran August 15 to September 30 last year, and with the Route 66 centennial in 2026 the corridor money has never been more relevant for towns along the Mother Road.

No deadline: rolling programs worth starting now

  • EDA Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance: rolling applications for economic development infrastructure, including tourism facilities tied to a regional strategy.

  • USDA Community Facilities: year-round applications for essential community facilities in rural towns under 20,000, including visitor centers and museums.

  • Walmart Spark Good Local Grants: the current cycle runs August 1 through November 30 for local community projects between $250 and $5,000.

If a deadline is too close

A grant application assembled in two weeks rarely wins. If a window above is closing faster than you can move, use it as the planning target for the next cycle instead: gather your letters of support, get your match commitments in writing, and have the project scoped before the announcement drops. Our guide to funding a visitor information kiosk covers how to structure the application itself.

And if you want the next deadline to find you instead of the other way around, the Kiosk Grant Finder has free deadline alerts filtered to your state.

For the full-year picture, the free report The 2026 Tourism Funding Landscape maps every deadline month, the match requirements, and where the biggest checks are written, in one PDF built from the same verified dataset.
